Cavia Porcellus on a Saturday
About four years ago guinea pigs came into my life a little by chance and I fell in love with their courage and kindness. My first guinea pig, Ola, has been my great, little teacher, giving me lessons on being and the importance of acting more like nature's guest when living on this spaceship we call Earth. Being lucky enough to get to know him, made the thought of eating meat very difficult, pointing out the great contradictions in the way we treat animals.
Part of the process of getting to know how to treat my furry chums, has been to go to guinea pig exhibitions, where I have been lucky enough to meet other people who are also in love with these little critters and who take their wellbeing very seriously. You also meet a great variety of cavies there and they keep amazing me with their strong personalities, lovely sounds and abundance of fur.
The pictures in this series have been made over a period of time when I have been attending guinea pig exhibitions regularly and show scenes from judging, check in, grooming and some select piglets. An exhibition is pretty much a perfect Saturday, as I fall in love with every cavy I see. They remind me of why I like life and I only hope we manage to give them back a little of the goodness they deserve and they have given to us.
I must say, it is quite scary releasing this ...
